The Losers: My Student’s a Winner (cross your fingers)
April 22, 2010
I had the thrilling adventure of getting to view the red-carpet premier of my long-ago student, Sylvain White‘s new campy genre-pic, The Losers at Graumann’s Chinese Theatre.
Sylvain’s movie is really funny, and like his work at the age of 20, intensely kinetic, balletic, fresh and wild in its visual virtuosity, tempo, and editing tricks; always a ride. An ironic while cinematically sophisticated romp, the film felt like Tropic Thunder in reverse: arch race politics played invisible; the lampoon of machismo played straight; the laugh first and last on cinema.
